Police Deploy Counter Terrorism Unit, Armoured Vehicles, Helicopters, Sniffer Dogs For Osun Election

Ibrahim Idris, Inspector General of Police, has said 40,000 of its personnel have been deployed for the Osun State governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday, September 22, 2018.
The personnel will be led by eight Commissioners of Police drawn from neighbouring states.
Two helicopters, 30 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and 300 patrol vehicles have also been deployed to maintain security during the election.
Jimoh Moshood, Police Spokesman, disclosed this in a press statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, and obtained by SaharaReporters.

APC Elders: No Anointed Aspirant For Lagos Governor


No aspirant has been adopted for Lagos State governor, All Progressives Congress (APC) elders said yesterday.
The Chairman of the  Elders’ Forum, Alhaji Tajudeen Olusi, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, said the party would not have resolved to hold a primary if it had adopted an aspirant.
He was reacting to media reports that the chapter had adopted Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Property Development Corporation (LSPDC), as its governorship candidate.
Said Olusi: “All these things are speculations. They are not true. How can we plan to hold a primary to elect our candidate and then adopt somebody?

Police Seal Anambra PDP Secretariat


The state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Udoka Estate, Awka, has been sealed by the Anambra Police Command, following a protest led by Ndubuisi Durkins, Assistant Legal Adviser of the party.
Haruna Mohammed, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), said the action followed a fracas that occurred earlier on Wednesday, noting that the closure of the office was to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
“The police would take control of the area until when normalcy returns,” he said.
According to NAN, Mohammed denied the claims that some of the PDP supporters were brutalised by thugs and policemen.

Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor of Lagos State, on Wednesday played down reports of rift with the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu.
Addressing party faithful in Epe during the election of delegates for the presidential primary election and national convention of the party, Ambode said the reports indicating a fight between him and Tinubu are out of place.
"I want you to know that there is no fight anywhere. The National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and my good self, we are not in any fight; we are not in any controversy,” he said.

Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transportation, says the present administration is ready to provide 24-hour electricity supply for Nigerians if re-elected.

'Your Psychological State Is Fragile', Jonathan Replies Oshiomhole On Vote Buying Allegation


Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's immediate past President, has responded to an allegation by Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that he started the practice of "vote buying".
According to Jonathan, the claims by Oshiomhole may be as a result of "psychological strain" associated with his efforts at defending "the already floundering ship of his administration".
The former President's response was contained in a statement signed by Ikechukwu Eze, his media aide, titled: 'Oshiomhole: The Burden of Blame Game and Tumultuous Leadership'.
Oshiomhole had stated on a television programme that “President Jonathan started this massive vote buying in Nigeria and the media must play back and do a proper interview and proper investigation to discover the origin of vote buying.”

National Assembly 'Won't Exercise Veto Power Yet' Over Electoral Act Amendment Bill


Honourable Abdul-Razak Namdas, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity, says the National Assembly won't exercise its veto power yet despite President Muhammadu Buhari's two-time refusal to sign the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
"We'll look at it again for the third time, because this is the second time the President has returned it," Namdas said.
"So, when we resume, we'll certainly go through it again and then make our position known; but I can tell you it is our desire that the Electoral Act should become a law."
He accused opponents of credible elections of dissuading President Muhammadu Buhari from signing the new Electoral Act bill into law.

Bukola Saraki, Senate President and presidential aspirant seeking to contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has appointed Dr. Doyin Okupe as Chairman of the Media Council for his campaign organisation.

Nigerian pop singer, David Adeleke has declared his support for the Osun governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke.

122 PDP Candidates Jostle For 24 Bayelsa Assembly Seats

The screening committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has cleared 122 aspirants to contest the State House of Assembly primaries.
Three persons were screened out.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned recent gloomy reports against the President’s re-election bid by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the research unit of The Economist Magazine and HSBC, a multinational banking and financial services company.
